Shanghai Reports 3 New H7N9 Cases – 2 Fatalities

With 3 more cases announced by Shanghai this morning, and the deaths of two previously announced cases, today represents the largest one-day increase in H7N9 cases to date with 11.

 

You’ll find earlier reports from Henan, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu Provinces - which when combined with this latest report from Shanghai - raise today’s total to 60 cases, and 13 fatalities

Municipality additional three cases of human infection with the H7N9 avian flu cases

As of today (April 14) 16:00, city newly confirmed cases of human infection of H7N9 avian influenza, and the patients are in stable condition, being active treatment, according to the Municipal Health and Family Planning Commission communications. A further two cases have been diagnosed with the H7N9 avian flu, before the rescue died. Up to now, a total of 24 cases of human infection with the H7N9 avian influenza confirmed cases, of which 9 patients died, 14 cases are being treated in isolation, and patients have been discharged.

 

3 new cases are as follows:

 

Patients Zhu, male, 73 years old, the people of Shanghai, retirees. April 5 patients no obvious incentive to fever, self-medication; April 8 to the Pudong New Area Punan hospital diagnosis of pulmonary inflammation; April 11 to Yan Chai Hospital of Eastern Hospital, diagnosed as pneumonia, treated admission. In the afternoon of April 13, City CDC test results for the H7N9 avian influenza virus nucleic acid positive. City Health and Family Planning Commission, the organization of municipal clinical expert group to discuss the cases, the diagnosis of the cases of human infection of H7N9 avian influenza confirmed cases. After investigation, the close contacts of cases of a total of nine people have been implemented under medical observation, up to now, were not unusual.

 

Patients Song, male, 54 years old, Jiangxi, freelance. Patients with fever on April 8, to Yan Chai Hospital of Eastern Hospital for treatment. Apr. 4 patients with no clear trigger symptoms of fever, April 5, to the East of hospital emergency department visits; April 7 visit again diagnosed as right lung pneumonia, given the observation with treatment; admitted to the hospital on April 8. In the afternoon of April 13, City CDC test results for the H7N9 avian influenza virus nucleic acid positive. City Health and Family Planning Commission, the organization of municipal clinical expert group to discuss the cases, the diagnosis of the cases of human infection of H7N9 avian influenza confirmed cases. After investigation, the close contacts of cases of a total of seven people have been implemented under medical observation, up to now, were not unusual.

 

The new deaths circumstances are as follows:

 

Patients with Jo, female, 67 years old, the people of Shanghai, retirees. Patients diagnosis of human infection of H7N9 avian influenza in the afternoon of April 4. The rescue invalid death on the evening of April 13.

 

Patients Wang, male, 77 years old, the people of Shanghai, retirees. April 9 patients confirmed human infection of H7N9 avian influenza. The rescue invalid death in the early morning of April 14.
